THE SPINOSAURUS IS THE COOLEST DINOSAUR EVER!!!!111!!111!!!!! LIKE THE DIMETRODON IT HAS A FIN!!!!!!! IT DOESNT GROW LIKE THE DIMETRODONS FIN THOUGH!!!!!!111!!!!! IT ALSO DOESNT USE ITS FIN FOR REPRODUCTION IT USES IT FOR WRESTLING!!!!!!111!! THE FIN ADDS STRENGTH TO THE SPINOSAURUS DEPENDING ON HOW MANY MATCHES THE SPINOSAURUS HAS WON!!!!!!1111!!!! THE SPINOSAURUS CAN ALSO DO COOL WRESTILING MOVES WITH ITS FIN!!!1111!!!! 99% OF DINOSAUR WRESTLING CHAMPS ARE SPINOSAURUSES AND THE REST ARE CHEATERS!!!!!111!!! THERE HAS BEEN TALK OF MAKING SEPERATE LEAGUES FOR THE SPINOSAURS BUT THE GALLIMIMUSES WONT LET ANYONE BECAUSE THEYRE TOO ENTERTAINED BY SPINOSAURUSES BEATING EVERYONE UP1!!!!!!!111!!!!! I LOVE THE SPINOSAURUS AND IT LOVES ME. THIS KID ALSO LOVES THE SPINOSAURUS.

When this post showed up in my feed reader, two elated thoughts ran through my mind. First, Dinosaur Joe is back! Hurray! Second, Spinosaurus? Sounds spiny!

What actually came up, as you of course know, is something not very spiny. However, it is definitely a worthy recipient of the title "COOLEST DINOSAUR EVER." My, my, what an impressive beast. My eyes open with wonder at the thought of seeing one of these majestic (and thoroughly badass) creatures in action. Using that fin for wrestling? My feeble mind can hardly cope with what that must look like!

However, Dinosaur Joe, I was wondering if you could elucidate for me why it is that it's called "Spinosaurs" even though it lacks spininess. The Wikipedia article seems to suggest that the name means "spine lizard," referring to the curious spinal structure that is its sail. Though Wikipedia is community-edited, largely by laymen, I still suspect that a certain number of contributors possess some "expertise," and of course take this information with a grain of salt. Please, if you have any further theories (or facts!), share them with us.

As always, much thanks.

I think I speak for everyone (except for Vincent, who already spoke for himself) when I say, I'm super glad to have you back, Dino Joe!

The long wait was not in vain. I, too, am very excited by this new addition of the spinosaurus to the page. I would have to say that the finned dinos continue to baffle me. What is the fin for? Why is it there? What does it taste like? It's just so damn intriguing!

Why is the kid drinking water? Does he have a fin? Does he want one?

Don't answer these questions, please. I prefer them to remain unknown to me, even though you obviously have the answers.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR GLADNESS THAT I AM BACK!!!!1111!!!!!! AS TO VINCENT YOU SHOULD NOW BETTER THAN TO QUESTION THE VALIDITY OF WIKIPEDIA ARTICLES!!!111!!! SINCE MOST PEOPLE LISTEN TO THE EXPERTS IT IS NOT ACCURATE MOST OF THE TIME!!!!111!!! THE NAME SPINOSAURUS COMES FROM ITS SIGNATURE MOVE THE FIN SPIN!!1111!!!! TO DO THIS MOVE THE SPINOSAURUS IMPALES THE COMPETITOR WITH ITS FIN AND SPINS AROUND ON THE FLOOR!!!!!!111!!!!!

That's quite ruthless!

I heard that the spinosaurus is also an expert surfer, as it is able to use its fin for support as it rides the waves upside down. This article seems to agree with this, as it explains the importance modern-day surfboard designers are attributing to the fin.
Is there any validity in this hypothesis? Could the spinosaurus have actually invented modern-day surfing with its characteristic "fin spin" maneuver?

Spinosauri (is sauri the plural for saurus?) are pretty cool. I didn't know they existed, and now I know that not only are they amazing wrestlers, but they are the inventor of the fin spin.

According to Vincent's wikipedia article these dinosaurs are the largest "scary-type" dinosaur (as opposed the the "plant-eating-push-over-type" dinosaurs, which are often bigger but more easily eaten than scary-type dinosaurs). Is this actually true, Dinosaur Joe?

YES THEY ARE THE LARGEST!!!!!!!!!!1111!!!!!! ALTHOUGH THEIR LARGENESS ISNT AS COOL AS OTHERS!!!!11!!!!

Once again I have to doubt the validity of said childs love for this dinosaur. This is but a timid youth with little to no backbone and if it were to have even imagined such a fine and lucid beast the timid youth would shat it self upon the grassy undergrowth of frightful fear. Especially one such youth who is obviously more compelled with water then with the staggering vastness of said Dinosaur.

This has been an anagrammatic Spinosaurus wrestling song.
